Accessed November 21, 2025 |
Helen V. Kittle, age 96,
departed this life on December 10, 2014.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Lloyd
Kittle; parents William Drago, Wyoma Drago, Harry Boso and
sisters (Anna Jane Salser, Wilma Kountz, Betty Robbins).
Surviving family members include her three children Ava Ann
Goldsberry (Dale), Ralph Larry Kittle (Reda) and Maurice
Kittle (June Kittle, Linda Collins). She is also survived by
her 10 grandchildren: Kevin Goldsberry (Kristi), Mark
Goldsberry (Sarah), Craig Goldsberry (Leslie), Michael
Kittle, Maurine Kittle, Nathan Kittle (Laura), Matt Kittle,
Katie Kittle, Andy Kittle (Katie) and Claire Kittle Dixon
(Josh Dixon). Great grandchildren also survive her, they
include: Dustin Goldsberry, Jake Goldsberry, Ben Goldsberry,
Maggie Goldsberry, Curtis Goldsberry, Alex Goldsberry,
Morgan Kittle, Jack Kittle, Ava Kittle, Walker Kittle,
Madeline Kittle, Max Kittle, Julia Loveman, Jenna Loveman,
Darcy Cunningham and Megan Cunningham.
Helen was an exceptional matriarch and lover of family. She
cared for her husband, Lloyd during his final years with
Alzheimer's. She was a strong, proud, dutiful wife and
mother who stopped at nothing to provide for those she cared
for. Helen was a Girl Scout leader, member of the Methodist
Church, active in the PTA, School board, Garden Club, VFW
Auxiliary and Eastern Star. Helen was a tremendous cook and
created a tradition of celebrating life through food, always
surrounded by family.
Born in Sandyville, West Virginia, she spent the lion's
share of her life in Ohio, primarily in The Plains and
Circleville. In retirement, she and Grandpa retired in
Venice, Florida. There, they enjoyed the riches of retired
life by golfing, playing cards and always warmly hosting
family gatherings.
The Kittle family celebrates the tremendous legacy she left
for us. Helen will be missed but she leaves with us a keen
awareness of the incredible years she spent with us. We will
proudly carry on the values of love and family she so
generously demonstrated to all during her time here.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite
charity, and visit your Mother or Grandmother and tell them
you love them.
Immediately following the funeral service, a graveside
service will be held at Venice Memorial Gardens. |

Obituary for
Ava Ann Goldsberry
https://www.ehwfh.com/obituaries/ava-goldsberry
Accessed November 21, 2025 |
 |
Ava Ann
Goldsberry walked through the gates of Heaven on May
3, 2020.
Her journey started on December 6, 1938 in Jackson
County, West Virginia and later moved with her
family to The Plains, Ohio where she met her high
school sweetheart and husband Dale, and raised their
three sons with love, affection, and a true sense of
family. Their journey then continued to Naples Lake
Country Club, and finally to Willowbrook Christian
Assisted Living in Delaware, Ohio.
Wherever they went, Ava had a way of making all
those around her feel like family and of making sure
no one felt like a stranger in her home (and
motorhomes). |
Ava often showed her love
through cooking and baking and shared this love frequently
with family and friends. She had a real talent in the
kitchen as many know through her most famous dishes
including her Paul Bunyan cookies, pies, Cherry Daylight,
homemade ice cream, pepperoni rolls, potato salad, and many
more that her relatives will continue to cook (or try to!)
in her memory.
Ava’s love and creativity extended beyond the kitchen. Ava
was a longtime member of the Plains Methodist Church Chorus.
She also always kept her hands busy, whether it was
crocheting, sewing, jewelry making, or painting. In her
giving spirit, many people were able to enjoy handcrafted
watercolor cards and large paintings that will be treasured
forever.
Ava was an avid golfer and longstanding member of the Athens
Country Club, and later a member of Naples Lakes Country
Club. Good times were always had with Ava and Dale on the
golf course. Many rounds were followed by many laughs around
the card table. Ava loved to play Bridge, Gin, and other
card games, and passed that passion down to her sons and
grandchildren.
Ava had great love for The Plains and the Athens
communities, and were lifelong and fervent fans of both the
Bulldogs and the Bobcats. They were longtime local business
owners of Dale’s Sohio on Court Street in Athens. They owned
and operated the service station for decades, before selling
the business to their son Kevin and retiring to Naples,
Florida.
Ava will be greeted in heaven by her parents Helen and Lloyd
Kittle and her niece Katie Kittle.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dale. She is
also survived by her brothers Ralph (& Reda) Kittle and
Maurice (& Linda Collins) Kittle, as well as her three sons:
Kevin (& Kristi) Goldsberry, Mark (& Sarah) Goldsberry, and
Craig (& Leslie) Goldsberry. Ava will also be missed by her
grandchildren Dustin (& Amy) Goldsberry, Jake Goldsberry,
Ben (& Josh) Goldsberry, Maggie Goldsberry, Curtis
Goldsberry, Alex Goldsberry, Darcy Cunningham, and Megan
Cunningham, her great-grandchildren Saylor Goldsberry and
Jonah Goldsberry, and other loving members of the Kittle and
Goldsberry clans.
We are in strange times and so will not be having a public
service or burial at this time. Ava had many friends and the
family will miss seeing each of you in person and hearing
your memories of your time spent with her. We humbly request
that you take a moment to share these stories and photos of
Ava by posting them on ava-ann-goldsberry.forevermissed.com.
Any contributions you would like to make in her honor to the
Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (https://alzfdn.org/support-us/donate/)
would be welcomed and appreciated. |
Obituary for
Dale Lavern Goldsberry
https://www.ehwfh.com/obituaries/dale-goldsberry
Accessed November 21, 2025 |
 |
Dale
Lavern Goldsberry, 87, of Athens, passed away
peacefully on Monday, June 2, 2025, at the Kobacker
House in Columbus, Ohio.
The family wants to extend
a heartfelt thank you to Ohio Health, the caregivers
at both the Kobacker House and Willow Brook
Communities for their kind hearts and attentiveness
to Dale.
Born June 23, 1937, in Millfield, Ohio, Dale was the
son of the late Ralph Emerson and Mary Etta Chadwell
Goldsberry. He was a 1955 graduate of The Plains
High School and a member of the Athens High School
Hall of Fame.
|
Dale’s remarkable work ethic was forged early in life,
working alongside his parents, siblings and grandparents.
Dale was continually driven by this work ethic, and helped
instill it in his children and grandchildren. He was
dedicated to providing a good life for his family, which led
to the opening of his service station business in 1961 at
the corner of East State Street and Morris Avenue in Athens,
Ohio. He later moved the station to Court Street, where it
will be forever known as Dale’s BP, operating it until 1999
when he sold it to his son, Kevin, and transitioned into a
well-deserved retirement.
Dale was an active, dedicated, and proud member of the
Athens County Shrine Club and was a Master Mason for 60
years - an impressive tenure and sign of his deep loyalty
and dedication to his community. Nothing speaks to Dale’s
loyalty more, however, than his marriage to his wife, Ava,
for 63 years. He and Ava shared a love for and invested
ample time in their passion for athletics, community, and
family. They had great love for The Plains and the Athens
communities, and were lifelong and fervent fans of both the
Bulldogs and the Bobcats. They were avid supporters of Ohio
University athletics and were longtime members of the Green
and White Club. Their motorhomes could be found tailgating
at Bobcat games throughout the Midwest. Dale spent many golf
seasons volunteering to transport coach Kermit Blosser and
the OU Golf team to their matches.
Ava and Dale enjoyed whatever spare time they had at Athens
Country Club, as this community was a major part of their
lives for many years. Whether it was playing a round of golf
or simply enjoying camaraderie with their fellow members -
whatever they were doing, laughter was sure to follow.
Dale and Ava’s love for travel took them to many
destinations (and many timeshares) that was grounded in
their joy of sharing new experiences together. Their
adventures eventually landed them down to Naples, Florida
where they spent several happy years - and even more rounds
of golf - at Naples Lakes Country Club. True to their roots,
Ava and Dale took every opportunity to grow a rich community
in Naples, whom they proudly introduced to their family and
friends during each visit.
For Dale, his eight grandchildren were a particular source
of joy and pride. Dale and Ava didn’t let distance keep them
from traveling back to support their grandchildren's’ many
interests, whether it was recitals, shows, or sporting
events of any type. Dale especially loved it when he learned
that his granddaughter, Maggie, had inherited Ava’s gift for
baking - delighting in all the goodies that resulted,
especially with a healthy scoop of ice cream.
Above all else, Dale loved deeply and cared fiercely with a
big and generous heart and copious love for friends and
family. He was well-loved, and loved a lot of people. With
his warm presence, Dale had a unique way of making everyone
around him feel seen, valued, and loved. Even if he didn’t
always like saying the words, you knew and felt his love
always - whether it was a big bear hug or a “yeah, buddy!”
Dale is survived by three sons, Kevin (Kristi), Mark
(Sarah), and Craig (Leslie) Goldsberry; grandchildren,
Dustin (Amy), Jake (Phoebe), Ben (Josh), Curtis (Alex),
Megan, Maggie (Jack), Darcy, and Alex (Olivia); four
great-grandchildren, Saylor, Jonah, Graham, and Miles; three
sisters, Karen (Emery) Sheffield, Carol Hawkins, and
Charleen (JB) King, sister in law Bonnie Goldsberry, as well
as several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Dale was preceded in death by his
wife of 63 years, Ava, in 2020, his two brothers, Ralph E.
Goldsberry and Harry F. Goldsberry, his sister in law Doris
Goldsberry and his brother-in-law, Greg Hawkins.
Visitation will be held on Saturday afternoon from 3:00 PM -
7:00 PM at the Hughes Funeral Home, followed by a Masonic
service at 7 P.M. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM
on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at the Hughes Funeral Home in
Athens. Burial will be in the Hilltop Cemetery in Millfield,
Ohio. A celebration of life for the well-loved couple, Ava
and Dale, will take place this fall; additional details to
come. |

Obituary for
Sarah Kathleen "Katie" Kittle
https://www.funeralhome.com/obituaries/sarah-kittle
Accessed November 21, 2025 |
 |
Sarah
Kathleen “Katie” Kittle made her last insightful and
outrageously inappropriate remark on March 21, 2017.
Left with countless great memories and stories they
can’t repeat in polite company are her parents,
Ralph and Reda Kittle; her brother and
sister-in-law, Andy and Katie; her sister and
brother-in-law, Claire and Josh Dixon; her niece and
nephews, Walker, Madeline, and Max; her hirsute
kinfolk, Reagan, Cosmo, and Knox; dozens of aunts,
uncles and cousins, many of whom shared her slightly
warped sense of humor; and a handful of amazingly
close friends. |
Katie was an original. She loved
deeply and without regret. She was an old soul, a giver, and
an open book. She believed that anything worth doing is
worth overdoing. She enjoyed life’s simplicities — nature,
gardening, cooking, art, backyard bird-watching, good music,
and maintenance of a Civil War-era home.
Katie cared deeply about fashion; her wardrobe included
several classic mullet wigs (the Wisconsin Waterfall being
her favorite), self-adhesive handlebar mustaches, Billy Bob
teeth, and a pair of tiny hands. Katie believed filters were
for coffee and cigarettes, not for words and actions.
Katie would NOT want you to send flowers. She would think
that was a waste of nature. If you insist on honoring her,
she would want you to consider the following:
1. Tell your friends and family how much you love them. Life
is short; give the love.
2. If you are an animal lover, make a donation in Katie’s
name to the Fairfield County (OH) Dog Adoption Center and
Shelter.
3. If you’re a bird nerd like Katie was, make a donation in
Katie’s name to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
4. If you are a nature-lover like Katie, make a donation in
Katie’s name to The Nature Conservancy.
5. If you share Katie’s sense of humor and love of Festivus,
make a donation in Katie’s name to “The Human Fund.”
6. Raise a glass to a life well-lived, take yourself a
little less seriously, and laugh — at everything.

FULL, Virginia Kittle, 85, widow
of Harley P. Full of Chesterfield, Va., died Wednesday,

20, 1943. She married the love of her life, Harley, on
December 25, 1942.
After marrying, Virginia and Harley lived for several years
in Ohio, where they started a family and were owners of a
Harley's Photography Studio, among other businesses. In 1961
they relocated to Hopewell, Va., where they both worked and
retired from Allied Signal in Chesterfield.
Virginia was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She
loved gardening, canning, cooking, baking and being
surrounded by her large family.

Virginia's family would like to thank Indiana University for
allowing them to participate in the Study of the Genetics of

several members of her family.
The family will receive friends at the Chester Chapel of J.T.

Christopher Preston "Chip" Full, 20, of Powhatan,
passed away August 20, 2017.
Christopher was born September 27, 1996 to
Christopher and Kimberly Full. He moved to Powhatan
at the age of eight and took advantage of everything
his town had to offer.
The walls of his childhood home are reminiscent of
his love of hunting, showcasing trophies from
seasons past. He loved to fish, always flashing a
playful dimpled grin, when mom or "sissy" asked him
to bait their hooks.
Christopher was following in his father's footsteps
and excelling as an electrician's apprentice at
Philip Morris, USA. |
Chip will be proudly remembered
as a hard worker whose wit and kind heart will be forever
cherished by those who loved him most.
Christopher leaves behind his mother, father, sister Megan
and many loving family members and friends. The family will
receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Bennett &
Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy.(Rt.60), Powhatan and
where memorial services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. |

Obituary:
Staats, Ada Maxine Kittle
Accessed December 8, 2025 |

POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. (WTAP) -
Ada Maxine Kittle Staats, known as Maxine, at 94 years old,
waltzed into Heaven on Valentine’s Day to meet up with her
husband, E. Harlan Staats, her cherished eldest son, Edward
Harlan Staats Jr (Linda), her parents, Troy & Olive Kittle,
and eight rib-tickling brothers and sisters: Lloyd Kittle,
Russell Kittle, Marie Whitlock, Virginia Full, Catherine
Hess, Bill Kittle, Charlotte Mace, and Rollin Kittle. No
doubt it was a joyous and festive reunion.
Maxine’s younger brother, Reverend James Kittle, and his
wife Nada reside in Point Pleasant and look forward to their
next engagement with the siblings.
Baby brother Rollin’s
wife, Carolyn, has remained a dear friend and waits to join
in the mix. |
Maxine has five other children: Michael J Staats (Sandy),
Angela Summers (Jack), Isaac Troy Staats, Dr. Dee Ann Staats,
and Kristi Davis (Robert). She has 12 grandchildren, Shannon
Staats, Edward Staats III, Lisha Proudfoot, Josie Rabatin,
Michael Habeb, Robert Habeb, Joshua Staats, Ashley Nutter,
Kyla Balderson, Colton Staats, Lyndee Yorek, and Rose Davis.
There are 29 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great
grandchild, another on the way.
Maxine loved horses, one of which returned the loved so much
that he followed her into the house from time to time.
Though she never finished high school, she was a voracious
reader with a dazzlingly vast vocabulary. This made her
almost unbeatable at Scrabble. She was considered the family
barrister and could decipher and advise on any legal
document. She hosted oodles of family gatherings and will
always be remembered for her pie crusts, molasses cookies,
blackberry cobbler, apple dumplings, and no one could ever
even come close to being able to make her homemade noodles.
Maxine’s children are the recipients of her wit and wisdom,
her dedicated parenting, and her sheer strength and resolve
to guide them into adulthood.
We will miss you, Mom, along with your pearls of wisdom,
especially the ones that gifted us gut-busting giggles. Mom
always maintained, “The only way to get a big job done is to
tackle it.” You tackled this one Mom, and your children are
the beneficiaries of your job well-done. God speed Maxine!
A small graveside service will be held on Monday February
21, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. at Sunset Memory Gardens.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr.
Hendershot and the staff at Ohio Valley Healthcare, who
treated Mom and all of us with genuine care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Ohio Valley Health Care
for the resident activities. Their mailing address is: 222
Nicolette Rd. Parkersburg WV, 26104. |

Obituary for
Edward Harlan Staats, Jr
https://www.waybrightfuneralhome.com/obituaries/edward-staats-jr
Accessed December 9, 2025 |
 |
The State of West Virginia has
lost one of its distinguished public servants and citizens.
Edward Harlan Staats, Jr.,70, passed away quietly after a
battle with cancer on December 9, 2016, surrounded by his
family on his beloved Coon Run Farm.
He graduated from Parkersburg High School serving as the Big
Red Indian mascot in 1964. With scholarships, he earned a
bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from West
Virginia University and became a Certified Public Accountant
with Arthur Anderson Accounting Firm in Atlanta, Georgia.
Staats was brought into state government under Governor
Gaston Caperton’s administration to design and implement a
program to turn around the State’s Workers Compensation
Program, which was losing millions of dollars each month.
|
As a result of the turn-around
effort, the State received an increase in its credit rating
and saved many millions over the years. He became the Chief
Operating Officer for the State in 2001 under Governor Bob
Wise’s administration.
In June of 2004, he was awarded the Distinguished West
Virginian Award for outstanding achievement and meritorious
service. In 2010, Ed retired after serving his beloved State
as Chairman of the Public Service Commission. He loved the
mountains and the people of his home state and worked
tirelessly to promote and improve it with his energy and
dedication.
He was the son of the late Edward Harlan Staats, Sr., and
Maxine Staats.
He was preceded in death by his wife Linda Louise (Wingrove)
Staats in 2009.
He is survived by his daughter, Shannon Staats of Georgia;
his son, Edward H. Staats, III, (Niki) and his three
granddaughters Kiki, Athena and Zoe of Parkersburg; his
brothers, Mike and Ike; his sisters, Dee, Angie and Kris;
and his life partner Linda Hanson.
Although his home was on his farm near Ripley, he and Linda
enjoyed the beach at their condo in Myrtle Beach and recent
winters in Florida. His hobbies were golf, reading and
spending time with his family and friends. In recent winters
in Florida, he and Linda were active in the Cancer Support
Ministry at First Baptist Church in Orlando.
A memorial service to celebrate Ed’s life will be held at 1
p.m. Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at Waybright Funeral Home,
Ripley. In lieu of flowers, friends may wish to consider
making a charitable donation in his honor to whatever
organization they wish to support. Online memories and
condolences can be sent to the family by visiting

When Linden married Nell
Sands, he must have adopted her children. The
Ohio Birth Index shows the father of Trevor Thomas
Kittle b. 1993 and Tiffany Nicole Kittle b. Sep 1998
as Linden. The Ohio Birth Index changes the birth
father's name if someone else comes along and adopts
the children. The father is most likeley
Thomas Quest. These children still carry the
Kittle last name.
Also, note that father James DOES NOT mention Trevor
or Tiffany in his obit. |

James
Franklin Mace entered eternal rest on Tuesday,
November 18, 2025.
Jim was born in Spencer, West Virginia on July 3rd,
1932. He was born to Eugene and Mabel Mace and grew
up in Sandyville, West Virginia. He attended a one
room school house in the 7th grade and graduated
from Gilmore High School, lettering in varsity
basketball. He was proud to say that he never took a
book home. Jim met his wife Charlotte, in school,
and when she was old enough to date he said, "After
I took Charlotte out, I never took anyone else out."
He enjoyed riding his pony, as a child, and helping
to care for the farm animals with his father. He
recently remarked that he once received, for
Christmas, a brand new bridle for his pony which was
a gift he was very thankful for. "It was a good life
in the country." |
He was drafted into the Army
during the Korean War, and was stationed at Fort Knox,
Kentucky serving in the 17th Infantry and was honorably
discharged.
Jim's dream was to move to Ohio and he accomplished that by
first working in Lorain, Ohio at Fruehauf Trailer
Corporation. He continued his career at the E.W. Bliss
Company, the Pennsylvania Crusher Corporation, Akron Gear &
Engineering, Inc., Meritor, Inc., and American Standard
Brands. He retired from Babcock & Wilcox Company, with the
highest regards for that company. Every business that he was
employed, he held a special work ethic of integrity and
productivity. He was well known for the "3 piece suit", in
those days, never wanting to "dress down" on Fridays.
He loved tending to his home and mowing grass on his 5
acres, in Canal Fulton, Ohio, with his John Deere tractor. A
restoration, on an antique John Deere, will be completed in
Heaven.
Horsemanship goes back four generations to the thoroughbred
race horse, and Jim enjoyed raising, training and showing
his Hackney show ponies earning many awards and a Grand
Champion Award, at the Ohio State Fair, in fine harness
driving competition. He was proud to drive his Hackney
stallion Kress, whom he had raised.
Jim first went to college when he was 70 years old at Stark
State Technical College and studied CAD Design earning the
highest grade. Education was important to him; he wanted to
read and learn all that he could in the many aspects of
life.
Jim sacrificed for, worked hard for and cared for his
family. It was so important to him to take his family to
church to hear and learn the word of God. He loved the
phrase, from the Lord's Prayer, "Thy Shall Be Done"
believing it wholeheartedly. His faith was important to him.
He always stated, "We are not to question why, but to look
for the message." Thank you Dad for all that you did for us;
we are beyond grateful.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother,
William Gene nicknamed Butch 12 years his junior, his wife
Charlotte, his second wife Edna, his first granddaughter,
Jennifer and his canine companions, Shannon and Madisyn.
What a glorious reunion at Heaven's Gates.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Pamela (Jeff),
Felisha (Todd), Heidi (Denny) and son, Gary (Judy),
grandchildren Jennifer, Andrea, Kyle, Chara (Jimmy), Scott
(Kristy), Lindsay (Robert), Charla (Craig), Jessica (Jason),
Abby (Jay) and Tina (Mike), great grandchildren Tyler
(Rachel), Breanna (Tanner), Brittany (Trent), Colton, Caden,
Aurora, Bailey (Matt), Riley (Austin), Braydon, Hailey,

and Mack Great Great Grandchildren: Kaleb, Kailynn, Rylee,
Emma and baby Myles due in January, 2026. He was
affectionately called Great PaPa by Colton and Caden.
The family wishes to thank Brookdale Senior Living, Dad's
home since 2018, for the friendship and the compassionate
care during his final days.
When you join us to celebrate our Father's life, you may
wear something blue, in his honor.
"The Lord bless you and keep you, the Lord make his face
shine upon you and give you peace." Numbers 6:24-26.
Funeral Services will be held MONDAY, November 24, 2025,

Jennifer Lynn Rohr, beloved daughter, wife, mother,
grandmother, sissy, auntie, and friend, passed away
peacefully on April 28, 2025, after a courageous
20-month battle with glioblastoma brain cancer.
She was a beacon of strength, love, and unwavering
faith throughout her life, touching all who knew her
with her kindness, determination, and grace.
Born to Jeff and Pam Baker, Jennifer lived a life
marked by deep devotion to her family and her work.
|

Criminal Justice, and later obtained her Master of Science
in Criminal Justice from the University of Cincinnati, all
while raising her family and working full-time.
Jennifer built a successful career at JP Morgan Chase, where
she worked from 2001 until her illness. She loved her job
and especially treasured the friendships she formed with her
colleagues.
Jennifer's greatest joy was her family. She was deeply proud
of the life she and her husband built together over nearly
22 years of marriage, raising three wonderful children and
recently cherishing the chance to watch her grandchildren
grow. She loved traveling, especially to the beach, creating
countless memories that her family will forever hold close.
Whether she was enjoying music, sharing laughter around the
table, or simply sitting quietly with loved ones, Jennifer
radiated a love that filled every room she entered.
Her strength in the face of illness was inspiring, and her
legacy of courage, perseverance, and unconditional love will
continue to guide those she leaves behind.
Jennifer is survived by her loving husband of 22 years,
Anthony Rohr; children Tyler Miner (Rachel Wallace), Breanna
Welker (Tanner), and Brittany Richwine (Trent);
grandchildren Kaleb, Kailynn, and Rylee; parents Jeff and
