JUDY ANN DOUGLAS, 71, of 339 Fifth Avenue, passed away at 5:45 PM Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Wilson Memorial Hospital. She was born on October 2, 1941 in Piqua, Ohio, the daughter of the late Fred and Daisy (Sowers) Gates.

Judy is survived by her three children; Daniel Teel Jr. and wife Diana of Minster, OH, Michael Teel of Sidney, and Starlet Douglas of Ocean Springs, MS, three grandchildren; Ciera Perry Alexander, Tesla Marie Perry, both of Ocean Springs, MS, and Trevor Glenn Elliott of Jackson Center, OH, and one sister, Maude Lorton of Sidney. She was preceded in death by two brothers; Fred Gates Jr., and Donald Gates, and one sister, Betty Ellis.
Mrs. Douglas had worked at Gilardi Foods for more than 10 years, prior to her decision to stay home and take care of her family. She enjoyed flower gardening, butterflies, and was quite the Elvis Presley fan. Most of all she enjoyed the time that she spent with her family. She and her sister Maude were inseparable, and her children and grandchildren meant the world to her. She was a wonderful homemaker, loving mother and caring friend, and will be deeply missed.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 11, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave., with Rev. Harold McKnight officiating. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Sidney, Ohio. The family will receive friends Friday, from 11 AM until the hour of service.

MAUDE E. LORTON, age 86 of Sidney, passed away Friday, April 2, 2021 at 5:05 AM at Versailles Rehab and Healthcare Center. She was born on April 9, 1934 in Piqua, Ohio, the daughter of the late Fred E. and Daisy Mae (Sowers) Gates. On April 15, 1950 she married William E. Lorton who preceded her in death June 11, 2011.

She is survived by two daughters, Sheila D. Troxell of Muncie, IN, and Christine (Lee) McMartin of Sidney, two grandchildren, Ryan McMartin, and Jessica Mills, four great-grandsons, Jacob, Kyle, Caleb, and Tyler, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Judy and Betty, two brothers, Fred and Donald, and son-in-law, W. Harvey Troxell.
Maude was a homemaker, an avid bowler, and enjoyed camping and fishing. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at 12:00 PM at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Sidney. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of service.

Memorials, in honor of Maude, may be made to Versailles Rehab and Healthcare Center. Condolences may be expressed to the family at the funeral home's website, www.cromesfh.com

Bianca L. Cruikshank, 80, of Piqua, passed away peacefully at 3:25 p.m. Tuesday, August 04, 2020 at Brookdale of Piqua. She was born June 27, 1940 in Piqua to the late William Sowers and Marjorie (Babcock) Sowers-Shaffer. She married Richard L. Cruikshank February 13, 1959 in Piqua and he preceded her in death July 1, 2019.

Survivors include four children, William (Mindy) Cruikshank of Houston, Christine (Jamie) Seitz, Vickie Cruikshank, Richard L. Cruikshank Jr., all of Piqua; five grandchildren, Angela (Marty) Pettus, Darla Bittner, Amber (Brian) Miller, Joe (Sarah Doherty) Shaffer, Wesley (Jessica) Cruikshank; and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Lester Shaffer; one brother, Jerry Sowers and one great granddaughter, Aurora Cruikshank.Mrs. Cruikshank attended Piqua Central High School.

She worked for many years as a housekeeper and was a wonderful homemaker and mother.
She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed watching hummingbirds and playing computer games.

A graveside service to honor her life will begin at 2:30 p.m. Friday, August 7, 2020 at Forest Hill Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Keith A. Gebhart officiating. Funeral arrangements are being provided to the family through the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Miami County Inc., P.O. Box 502, Troy, OH 45356. PAULINE L. MAXON, age 78, of Piqua, went to be with the Lord, at 6:13 PM on Monday July 3, 2017 at her residence. She was born to John and Ruth (Wolfe) Sowers on June 6, 1939 in Piqua, OH. She married Trueman A. Maxon on March 31, 1956 in Piqua, OH. He preceded her in death on January 14, 1996.

Pauline is survived by one daughter: Linda Maxon, Piqua, OH; two sisters and one brother; one grandson: Eric Maxon, Piqua, OH. Pauline was a dedicated homemaker.

Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home, Piqua.

William G. Sowers of Piqua died Saturday at age 60. Mr. Sowers attended St. Boniface School and Freewill Baptist Church in Piqua.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Viola (Skeens) Sowers; son, Thomas R. "Rusty" Auxier of Piqua; daughter, Dorothy McGrew of Piqua; brothers, Joe Sowers and Bob Sowers; sisters, Ruth Purtin, Emily Jones, Sandy Fries and Pauleen Maxon; and seven grandchildren.

SIDNEY — Billie Jo Hedrick, 54, of Sidney, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 in Hospice at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima, Ohio.

Billie Jo was born in Piqua, Ohio on March 10, 1964 to Norman (Jack) Hedrick Sr. (deceased) and Emily (Sowers) Jones, Covington, Oh.

Her brother Norman Hedrick Jr., preceded her in death on November 15, 2001.

Billie Jo is survived by her son, Brandon Bryant (Sidney, Oh), father John Jones (Covington, Oh). Sister Connie (Chet) Brewster, (Ludlow Falls), brother Steven Jones (Covington, Oh), niece Amy Brewster (Ludlow Falls, Oh), nephew Eric (Brittany) Brewster (Piqua, Oh) a special Aunt and Uncle, Evelyn and Joe Sowers (Sidney, Oh) and best friend Sue Harvey (Piqua, Oh).

Billie Jo graduated from Piqua High School in 1982. She worked for Comfort Keepers for a number of years.

Billie Jo loved being with family and friends and enjoyed playing bingo.

Billie Jo was a selfless individual who donated her body to Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine Anatomical Gift Program for educational purposes.

Kenneth "Kenny" Sheats, 63, of Panama City, passed away Friday, Oct. 28, 2011, at his home.

Kenny was born the son of William and Mary Sheats on Dec. 28, 1947 in Pique, Ohio. He was avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his family

He was a loving husband to Susan for almost 10 years, a loving father to Shawn and Jason, and grandfather to Cooper, Cody, Cameron and Evan.  He is also survived by his sister, Jeanette Mays and her husband, David; his brother-in-law, Jeff Cooper and his wife, Laura; his friend and nephew, Nathan Cooper; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Chaplain Virgil Tillman officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be viewed or expressed at www.kentforestlawn.com.

Janice L. Hoffman, 59, of 601 Cross Trail, Lockington, died on Saturday, February 15, 2003 at 1:50 pm in the Upper Valley Medical Center. She was born in Piqua on October 28, 1943 to the late William and Mary Sowers Sheats. She married F. Herman Hoffman on July 8, 1967 in Piqua; he preceded her in death on April 27, 1995.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law Rick A. and Kimberly Hoffman of Lockington, three daughters and sons-in-law Margaret and Roger Case, Donna S. Hoffman all of Lockington, Melissa and Tim Heitman of Anna, ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren one brother and sister-in-law Kenny and Susan Sheats of Panama City, Fla., and a sister and brother-in-law Jeannette and Dave Mays of Piqua. She was preceded in death by a brother.
Mrs. Hoffman attended Newport Pacific High School and graduated in 1995 from the Upper Valley Joint Vocational School. She worked for over twenty-five years at the former Medalist Allen-A Company in Piqua, and assisted her husband with the Hoffman Grocery Store in Lockington. She was a member of the Lockington United Methodist Church.

A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, February 19, 2003 at 10:00 am in the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. James F. Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow in Shelby Memory Gardens. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5:00-8:00 pm in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Lockington United Methodist Church, 10288 Museum Trail, Lockington, OH 45356 or the Lockington Volunteer Fire Department, Lockington, OH 45356. Jeannette R. Mays, 70, of Piqua, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016, at 11:15 a.m. at Kindred Hospital, Dayton, Ohio. She was born in Piqua, Ohio, on Sept. 27, 1945, to the late William and Mary (Sowers) Sheets. She married David A. Mays on Dec. 1, 1972 in Piqua, Ohio. He survives.

Jeannette is also survived by one son and daughter-in-law: David A. and Rose H. Mays, II, Piqua, Ohio; two very special nieces: Margaret Hoffman and Jordyne Carey.

She was preceded in death by two brothers: James and Kenneth Sheets, and one sister: Janice Hoffman.

Jeannette graduated from Piqua Central High School in 1963. She was a seamstress at Atlas Underwear in Piqua for 30 years.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Jan. 11, 2016, at 1 p.m. at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home, Piqua, Ohio, with Pastor Greg Simmons officiating. Burial will follow at Miami Memorial Park, Covington, Ohio. Friends may call Monday noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Helen C. (Sowers) Gephart: age 82 of Piqua, died Sunday, April 3, 2005 at 2:38 p.m. at Covington Care Center. She was born October 28, 1922 in Piqua, Ohio to the late William and Maud (Miller) Sowers. She married Eli D. Gephart August 26, 1938 in Piqua; he preceded her in death November 7, 1990.

Ms. Gephart is survived by one son and daughter-in-law: Michael L. and Jane Gephart of Sidney and three daughters and sons-in-law: Joyce A. and Willard Stevens of Piqua, Carolyn L. and Robert Freeman of Piqua and Sherry L. McGillvery of Piqua. Sixteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren also survive her. Four brothers, two sisters and one daughter: Marilyn Edgell preceded her in death.

Funeral Services will be Thursday, April 7, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home with Rev. James Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Piqua. Visitation will be Wednesday 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

PIQUA — Joyce Ann Stevens, 77, of Piqua, OH, passed away at 7:47 a.m. on Sept. 9, 2016, at her residence. She was born in Piqua, Ohio, on June 11, 1939, to the late Daniel and Helen (Sowers) Gephart. On June 14, 1957, in Piqua, Ohio, she married Willard L. Stevens. He survives.

Joyce is also survived by one daughter and son-in-law: Pamela and Roger Bateman, Piqua, Ohio; two sons and daughter-in-law: Gregory and Carrie Stevens, Piqua, Ohio, and Willard Stevens Jr., Piqua, Ohio; one sister: Sherri, Piqua, Ohio; and one brother: Michael Gephart, Lockington, Ohio; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters: Marilyn Edgell and Carolyn Freeman.

Joyce graduated from Piqua Central High School in 1957. She worked at Industry Products, Piqua, Ohio, as a press operator for 18 1/2 years before retiring in 2001.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home, Piqua, with the Rev. Richard Keeran officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, Piqua. Family and friends may call Monday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Marilyn S Edgell, 61, of, Piqua, died at 12:00 noon Saturday, July 5, 2003 at Upper Valley Medical Center. She was born Jan. 21, 1942 in Piqua, Oh. to the late Daniel Gephart and Helen (Sowers) Gephart of Piqua. Marilyn married William Edgell and he survives.

Mrs. Edgell is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Jeff Brownlee of Piqua; three sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Sherry Edgell of Piqua, Brian and Jamie Edgell of Fletcher, and Billy and Julie Edgell of Piqua. Three sisters, Carolyn Freeman of Piqua, Joyce Stevens of Piqua and Sherry Gephart of Piqua, one brother, Mike Gephart of Piqua. Seven grandchildren, Scotty Edgell, Jerrica Rue, Megan Edgell, Haley Kiser, Ashley Rue, Olivia Edgell and Rayna Brownlee. She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Audrey Edgell.

She was a member of Crosspoint Church in Troy. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday July 9 at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home with the Rev. Daryl Fulp officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery in Piqua. Calling hours will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society 20 W. Main St. Springfield, Ohio 45502.

PIQUA - Scott Alan Edgell Jr., 28, of Delaware, Ohio, formerly of Piqua, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, in Troy. He was born in Piqua on Aug. 28, 1984, to Scott A. Edgell Sr. of Piqua and Sheila Edgell, Cincinnati.

Scott is survived by his step-mother, Sherry Edgell of Piqua; one brother and sister-in-law, Shawn and Heather Detrick of Troy; two sisters and brother-in-law, Jerrica and Josh Graham and Ashley Rue, all of Piqua; his maternal grandmother, Pearl Morrison of Troy;
five nieces and nephews, Bristol Graham, Skylar Detrick, Josh Detrick, Victoria Detrick and Hunter Detrick; one great-nephew, Tanner Scott McDavid; several aunts and uncles and five cousins, Haley Kiser, Megan Edgell, Olivia Edgell, Rayna Brownlee, and Calleigh Edgell.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Bill and Marilyn Edgell; his maternal grandfather, Walter Morrison; and one cousin, Audrey Edgell.

Scott graduated from Piqua High School in 2003. He then graduated from Otterbein College in Westerville in 2008. Scott played four years of football for the Piqua Indians and then played four years at Otterbein College. He enjoyed gaming, movies, and his dog Ajax, who he nicknamed "Fatty." Scott loved to cook and enjoyed watching cooking shows and experimenting with the recipes he saw. He worked at Great Lakes Regional Distribution Center in Delaware for six years. Above all else, Scott loved spending time with his family.

A Celebration of Scott's Life will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home, Piqua. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.melcher-sowers.com.
