Opal Darlene Bright King, 75, a lifelong resident of Kerens,
passed away Sunday, March 9, 2003, at her residence. She had
been in failing health since October; however, death was sudden
and unexpected and attributed to cancer.
Born Aug. 12, 1927, in Randolph County, she was the daughter of
the late Lindsey Thomas and Leona Maude Vanscoy Bright. She was
united in marriage to Harry Dale King, who preceded her in death
on Jan. 30, 1980.
Opal is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Connie Purdum and
husband, Steve, and a son and daughter-in-law, Allen King and
wife, Sue, all of Montrose; and two brothers, Darl Bright of
Belington and Roy Bright of Colora, Md.
Also surviving are four grandchildren, Travis King, Andrew
Purdum, Jackie King and Brandon King; and several nieces and
nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband, was a
son, Randall King.
Opal was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of
1945. She had been formerly employed at the Reidbord Co., G.C.
Murphy’s, Grant’s and the old Davis Electric Laundromat. She was
also a line operator for Bata Shoe Co. until retiring in 1973.
She was a former member of Hart’s United Methodist Church in
Kerens, where she taught Sunday School for several years. She
was also a member of the United Methodist Women’s Association,
the Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veteran of Foreign Wars’ Women’s
Auxiliary, and the Gold Star Wives of America.
There will be no visitation. A graveside service will be on
Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at
Gilman. The Rev. Jonas Johnson Jr., a retired Methodist
minister, will officiate and interment will follow. In lieu of
flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to
Mountain Hospice, 1410 Crim Ave., Belington, W.Va., 26250. in
Opal’s name. The F.E. Runner Funeral Home is in charge of the
arrangements for Opal Darlene Bright King. |

Elaine Gibson Bright, 73, a resident of 308 Bradshaw St. in
Belington, departed this life at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 2,
2002, at her home. She had been in declining health for quite
some time.
She was born Aug. 16, 1928, in Barbour County, a daughter of the
late Charley and Lillie George Gibson.
On Sept. 22, 1950, she was united in marriage to Darl Bright,
who survives at her home in Belington.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two brothers,
Donald Gibson, Proctor, and Charles Gibson, Belington; five
sisters, Lucille Kitchen, Martinsville, Ind., Angelena Williams,
Akron, Ohio, Janet Simmons, Cape Coral, Fla., Irene Coontz and
Carol Daughtery, both of Belington; and several nieces and
nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one
daughter, Sharon Lucille Bright.
Mrs. Bright was a graduate of Belington High School. She was a
homemaker and a Methodist by faith.
Graveside services will be conducted from the Concord Cemetery
at Belington at 2 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Arden Beck
officiating. Interment will follow. The family ask that in lieu
of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Hospice Care
Corp., 629 North Ave., Elkins, W.Va. 26241. Talbott Funeral Home
in Belington is in charge of the arrangements. |

Mr. Darl Edward Bright,
82, of 12 Easy St. in Elkins and formerly of Belington,
departed this life Thursday morning Aug. 22, 2013, at
his home following a period of declining health.
He was born March 2, 1931, at White, W.Va., in Randolph
County, a son of the late Lenzy Thomas and Leona Maude
(Vanscoy) Bright.
On Sept. 22, 1950, he was united in marriage to the
former Elaine Gibson, who preceded him in death on April
2, 2002.
Survivors include one brother, Roy Bright of Colora,
Md.; nephew Allen King and wife, Sue, of Montrose;
nieces, Connie Purdum and husband, Steve, of Montrose;
Laura Bright of Colora, Md. and Terri Bright of San
Antonio, Texas; one brother-in-law Charles Gibson of
Belington; sisters-in-law Lucille Kitchen, Irene Coontz,
Carol Daugherty and Janet Simmons; several other nieces
and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews also
survive. |
In addition to his parents and wife,
he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sharon Lucille
Bright; one sister Opal Darlene King; sisters-in-law Bonnie
Bright and Angelena Williams; nephew Randy King and an infant
niece Christina Bright.
Mr. Bright attended the schools of Randolph County and was a
Veteran of the United States Army. He was retired from the Ohio
Operating Engineers Union, where he was employed for many years
in the construction trade. He was a lifetime member of the
Laurel Mountain Post No. 410 VFW in Belington and was a
Methodist by faith. Mr. Bright was an avid coon hunter and won
many championship ribbons and trophies. He dearly loved
Belington and all his friends there who he considered family
especially those at Dianne's Restaurant.
Graveside services will be conducted 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug.
24, 2013, from the Concord Cemetery near Belington with the Rev.
Jimmie E. Tallman officiating. Full military rites will be
accorded by the Belington American Legion Post No. 96 in
Belington. Interment will then follow.
The Talbott Funeral Home in Belington is in charge of the
arrangements for Mr. Darl Edward Bright. Condolences can be made
