Woodrow W. Calain, 85, a former
resident of Bowden, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, in the
United States Soldier’s and Airmen’s Home in Washington,
D.C.
He was born March 22, 1917, in Bowden, a son of the late J.W.
"Bill" Calain and the late Beulah Dove Calain.
He had never married.
He is survived by one sister, Mrs. William (Eleanor) Tolbard,
Frederick, Md.; one brother-in-law, Herman "Peck" Vance of
Bowden; one sister-in-law, Ethel Calain of Bowden; and
several nieces and nephews.
Also preceding him in death were three sisters, Virginia
Phares, Betty Riggleman and Ruby Vance; and two brothers,
H.O. "Mac" Calain and Russell Calain.
Mr. Calain was a veteran of World War II, serving in the
U.S. Army from 1935 until 1937 in Northern France and from
1939 until 1945 in the 702nd Tank Destroyer Battalion. He
received numerous decorations including Good Conduct Medal,
American Defense Service Medal, the African, Middle Eastern
and European Service Medals and four Bronze Stars. He was an
avid traveler visiting almost every state in the nation.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the
Arlington National Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded
and interment will follow. This announcement is a courtesy

Georgia Marie Riggleman
Lamoreaux, 70, a resident of Monterville, entered into
eternal rest after a long and courageous battle with cancer
and kidney disease Saturday afternoon, May 26, 2012, at her
residence surrounded by her family.
Georgia was born June 13, 1941, at Monterville, a daughter
of the late Sherman Riggleman and Betty Calain Riggleman.
Also preceeding her in death was one son, George Lamoreaux;
and one sister Faye Collier.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 49 years, Louis,
of Monterville; one son, Louis Jr. and wife, Windy; one
daughter, Kim Lucas and husband, Tim; two grandsons, Beau
and Trevor Lamoreaux, all of Grottoes, Va.
She is also survived by a loving sister, Sharron Shifflet
and family of Newport News, Va.; and one brother, William
Riggleman and family of Monterville.
Also a great help and friend, Whitney Sharp, of Valley Head,
especially niece Lisa Helmick and her husband, Randall, and
sons Joe and Josh, of Monterville; and numerous nieces and
nephews.
Georgia was an active person who enjoyed bowling, gardening,
embroidery, and her flowers. She was a wonderful wife,
mother and grandmother. In lieu of flowers please make
donations to Hospice Care Corporation, P.O. Box 760
Arthurdale, WV 26520-0760, who helped tremendously toward
the end of her life.
There will be a private graveside memorial service at a
later date.
Arrangements for Mrs. Lamoreaux have been entrusted to The
Randolph Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 100 Meadow
Lane, Valley Bend. |

Joyce Faye Riggleman Collier,
age 61 years, a resident of Mill Creek, departed this life
early Tuesday morning, August 21, 2007 at the Duke
University Hospital at Durham, NC.
She had been in failing health for the past several years.
She was born Friday, July 5, 1946 at Monterville, WV a
daughter of the late Sherman Morris Riggleman and Betty
Calain Riggleman.
On March 8, 1965 at Mingo, WV she was married to John
Randall Collier who survives. They had celebrated forty-two
years of marriage.
Also surviving are two sons, James R. Collier and fiance
Julie Koontz, Brandywine; John Andrew Collier and fiance
Lorie Rader, Mill Creek; one daughter, Penny McKenzie and
husband Andrew, Springdale, AR; one brother, Bill Riggleman
and wife Jane, Monterville; two sisters, Georgia Lamoreaux
and husband Louis, Monterville; Sharon Shiflett and husband
Chris, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Randall Collier,
Jessica Collier, Cole Collier, Josey Collier, Kaitlin
McKenzie, Colin McKenzie and Ashley Collier.
Preceding her in death is one grandson, Trenton Rader
Collier.
Faye was a graduate of Tygarts Valley High School. She was a
homemaker, an excellent cook, a loving wife and a devoted
mother and grandmother. She was a Protestant by faith.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral
Home of Elkins from 5 to 8 PM, Thursday. Final Rites will be
conducted at the funeral home chapel, Friday, August 24,
2007 at 11 AM. The Reverend Marshall R. Williams will
officiate and interment will follow at the Brick Church
Cemetery at Huttonsville, WV. |

ELKINS — Mr. Herman G. “Peck”
Vance, age 92 years, a resident of Bowden, passed away
Sunday, January 1, 2012, in the Hospice Care Regional
Inpatient Center surrounded by his family.
He had made his home with his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy
and Merle Webley, for three years.
He was born November 22, 1919, at Glady, a son of the late
of Ira W. and Ota Belle Triplett Vance.
On June 15, 1941, at Bowden, he was married to Ruby V.
Calain, who preceded him in death June 25, 1982.
He is survived by his children, Richard “Dick” Vance and
wife Shirley, of Seneca Rocks, Nancy Webley and husband
Merle, of Elkins, and Karen Cooper and husband Nathan, of
Kingwood; one brother, Harold Vance, Orville, OH; and three
sisters, Betty Filuta, Orville, OH, Donna Hickman Mullholand,
of Walbridge, OH, and Audrey Armentrout and husband Rich, of
Rittman, OH. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Bryan
Webley and wife Debbie, of Elkins, Brennon Webley and wife
Crissy, of Beverly, Shawn Cooper and wife Maggie, of Elkins,
and Melissa Cooper, of Kingwood; great-grandchildren,
Spencer and Colleen Webley, of Elkins, Morgan and Scottie
Webley, of Beverly and Sydney and Malia Cooper, of Elkins;
and a special friend, Tom Wymer.
Also preceding him in death were brothers, Isaac, Charles,
Howard, June, Harley and Donald Vance, and sisters, Mary
Kerens, Ethel Howell Parncutt, Bethel Rhodes and Mable Race.
Mr. Vance had worked for Sam G. Polino at the Bowden Stone
Crusher and retired from the Western Maryland Railroad and
Chessie Systems CSX after forty-two years of employment. He
later worked at Revelle’s Campground for many years and was
a volunteer for the Tygart Flyer Railroad, where he was
instrumental in telling the history of the railroad. He
loved railroading and hunting.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2012,
at the Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins. A funeral service
will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 5, from the
funeral home chapel with Rev. Robert L. Lowther officiating.
Interment will follow in the Elkins Memorial Gardens.
The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the
arrangements for Mr. Herman G. “Peck” Vance. |

Ramona L. Lowther, of Lois Lane,
passed away Sunday of complications from emergency surgery.
Her family was by her side.
She was born in Grafton W.Va, a daughter of Robert and Helen
(Moyer) Galford.
Ramona had worked at Owens Illinois Glass and later retired
from Packard Electric. She was associated with the Girard
congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Her husband, Phil S. Lowther, whom she married January 3,
1948, passed away in 1984.
Ramona is survived by two daughters, Kim Lowther, with whom
she shared her home, and Joetta (Jay) Myers of Girard; a
sister, Madonna Galford of Carolina, W. Va; eight
grandchildren, Launa, Phillip, Kristen, Matthew, Nick,
Brianne, Lucas, and Trevor; and five great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, Ramona is preceded in death by her
parents and a daughter, Phyllis Renea Cooke.
Funeral services will take place at 10:30 AM Thursday at the
Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel where family and friends
may call from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday. |

N AUSTINTOWN – Charles R. Davis
Sr., 79, formerly of Girard, passed away on Monday June 11,
2012, at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
He was born Nov. 1, 1932, in Flemington, W.Va., the son of
the late Charles T. and Virginia Moyer Davis.
He was a Army veteran in the Korean War. He worked at Easco
Aluminum as a laborer, retiring in 1977.
He enjoyed fishing if there was water. Charles would fish
with his son, Steven and grandson, Chaz.
Charles is survived by his sons, Steven (Denise) Davis of
Girard and Jamie (Becky) Davis of Austintown; sister Linda
Giffin of Painsville; brothers Robert (Mable) Davis of
Cataula Ga., Donald Davis of Painsville and Roy (Lee) Davis
of Painsville; daughter-in-law Tracie Davis of Austintown;
and seven grandchildren, Laura Mackey, Chaz Davis, Richie
Davis, Jessica McCauley, Justin McCauley, Samantha Davis and
Jake Davis.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Patricia J.
Spicer, whom he married Dec. 9, 1961, and passed away Aug.
21, 1995; son Charles R. Davis Jr.; and brother Terry Davis.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 15, 2012, at
11 a.m. at the Blackstone Funeral Home.
Family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 5
to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be held at Belmont Park Cemetery with
military honors.

Nettie “Rosalie” Moyer Bragg,
92, of Barrackville, formerly of Rivesville, passed away
Thursday (March 5, 2009) at her daughter’s home in
Barrackville.
She was born in Elkins on April 23, 1916, the last surviving
child of the late Roy Hamilton and Stella Ann McClain[sic]
Moyer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Gale Bragg,
on May 14, 1988.
Rosalie was a member of the Oakwood Road Church of Christ in
Fairmont. She was a homemaker, and a loving mother,
grandmother, great-grandmother and a
great-great-grandmother. During World War II, she was
employed by Goodyear Rubber Company making the Goodyear
blimps and an aircraft company manufacturing airplanes in
Akron, Ohio. She had also been employed by Owen Illinois
Glass Plant in Fairmont for eight years.
Rosalie is survived by her daughter, with whom she made her
home, Roberta Paulette Chapple and her husband Carl of
Barrackville; her sister-in-law, Ruby Ann Moyer of Salem,
Ohio; four grandchildren, Carlene Chapple Brooks and her
husband William of Mont Clair, Va.; Jennifer Chapple Huey
and her husband Mike of Mannington, Robbie Martinez of
Colorado and Regina Glover of Clarksburg; 10
great-grandchildren, Robin Jo Moore of Rivesville, Bryan
Egress of Mannington, Christy Moore of Triangle, Va.;
Christopher Scott Egress of Mannington, Marissa Lee Huey of
Monongah, Ori Martinez, Amber Martinez, Taylor Martinez,
Andrew Glover and Shannon Glover; three
great-great-grandchildren, Savannah Egress and Shane Egress
of South Carolina, and Breanna Meadows of Triangle, Va.;
seven stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In
addition to her parents and her husband,
Rosalie was preceded in death by her son, Robert Paul
Martinez; her brothers, Walter William “Buddy” Moyer,
Lawrence (LeRoy) “Bussie” Moyer and Robert Hoy “Bobby”
Moyer; her sisters, Wanetta May Moyer, who died in infancy,
Wilda Sines, Virginia Davis and Helen Dare Moyer; her
stepchildren, William “Bill” Bragg and Arthena Webb; and her
grandson-in-law, Dale Moore.
Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. today: 1-8 p.m. Saturday; and
11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home,
209 Merchant St., Fairmont. Services will be held at 2 p.m.
Sunday at the funeral home with evangelist Brent Gallagher
officiating. Interment services will follow at Arnettsville
Cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thank
you to all of the staff from Hospice Care and to her loving
caretaker. |

SALEM – Robert J. Moyer, 82, of
1341 Jefferson Ave., died at 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April
30, 2008 at the home of his daughter.
He was born in Akron on May 4, 1925, the son of the late Roy
and Stella (McClain)[sic] Moyer.
Robert had been a high lift driver in the Tool Crib at
Chrysler Corporation in Twinsburg for 35 years before
retiring in 1989.
He had been a 25-year member of the Salem Police Auxiliary
and carried the American Flag for the Salem Police Color
Guard. He was a lifetime member of the Salem V.F.W., a
member of the Salem AMVETS and marched with the Color Guard.
Robert served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII where
he served as a Scout and Infantryman. He was awarded a
Purple Heart.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Ann (McCauley) Moyer, whom
he married Feb. 24, 1946 and celebrated 62 years of
marriage; four daughters, Sharon Zamarelli, Belinda Palmer,
Ramana (Mike) Weitz and Debbie McLaughlin, all of Salem; a
sister, Rosalie Bragg of Riversville, W.Va.; eight
grandchildren, Tracey (Steve) Sanlo, Joe (Vanessa) Zamarelli,
Andy (Marcie) Zamarelli, Kirk (Annie) Weitz, Robby
(Danielle) Cranmer, Todd (Jodie) McLaughlin, Erik (Megan)
Weitz and Sarah (Mike) Sperry; and nine great-grandchildren,
Kylie Marconi, Bailey Sabatino, Courtney Sanlo, Kayci
Zamarelli, Nathan Cranmer, James Fitzsimmons, Brooklyn
Zamarelli, Joey Zamarelli and Cameron Sperry.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jenny Rebecca
McLaughlin; son-in-laws, Joseph Zamarelli and Jeffrey
McLaughlin; three sisters, Wilda Sines, Helen Galford and
Virginia Davis; and two brothers, Walter and Lawrence Moyer.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Stark
Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Doug DeMar officiating.
Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the
funeral home.
Full military honors at the cemetery will be provided by the
Salem V.F.W. Post No. 892 and the Salem AMVETS Post No. 45
Burial Group. |
