 CUMBERLAND - Robert Elton Tritt went home to be with the Lord, July 6, 1999, after a short illness.
He was born in Cumberland on Sept. 19, 1922, to John and Amelia Tritt.

He graduated from Allegany High School, class of 1940, and Bliss Electrical School, and he attended Franklin Marshall and York Colleges. From 1942-1946 he served in the U.S. Navy as a cryptologist in the Pacific during World War II. In 1987 he retired after a 40-year career with IBM in Washington, D.C., York and Lancaster, Pa., and Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Boca Raton, Fla. He was a member of the advisory board of Broward Community College, the Broward County School Superintendents Commission for the Improvement of Public Education (SCOPE); Optimist International, Data Processing Management Association; DeMolay; and the Masonic Lodge.

He has participated in numerous career days in high schools and community colleges in the tri-county area, and was a loan executive to the United Way of Dade County in 1978. He was also active in his church, and is elder emeritus at First Church West.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth June (Pritt); three sons, Rev. David Tritt and his wife, Betsy (Grimm), Bel Air, John and his wife, Lorna (Merlo), North Lauderdale, and Michael and his wife, Rita (Smith), Pompano, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; a brother, Harry Tritt, York, Pa.; a sister, Gertrude Moreland, LaVale; a niece; and two nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to Beacon Baptist Church, 5700 Ranelagh Road, White Marsh, MD 21162, Attn: Robert Tritt Memorial Fund.

A memorial service was held on Friday, July 9, 10 a.m. at T.M. Ralph Plantation Funeral Home.

Friends were received following the service.

Inurnment took place at Forest Lawn South Cemetery.

Cremation arrangements by T.M. Ralph Plantation Funeral Home.

Tritt, Elizabeth June (nee Pritt), was born August 25, 1918 to Willard and Effie Godwin Pritt. Graduated from Davis and Elkins College in Elkins, West Virginia. Married Robert Elton Tritt March 14, 1943 in Cumberland, Maryland.

She passed away December 30, 2004.

Survived by her children, David Elton Tritt, Sr., and his wife Betsy (Grimm) of BelAir, Maryland, John Robert Tritt and his wife Lorna (Merlo) of N. Lauderdale, FL, Michael Steven Tritt and his wife Rita (Smith) of Fort Lauderdale, FL and 10 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the T.M. Ralph Funeral Home from 1-2 pm on Monday. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM. Inurnment will take place at Forest Lawn South at a later date. www.tmralph.com, 954-587-6888.
